Being in International School settings on four continents, it is easy to see that kids are kids regardless of where they come from- where they live -or where they are moving. “EFG”, “Expats, Friends and Great Things” is just a follow on to the ABC’s teachers and parents are so familiar with but more in line with what we need now because we are involved with “global kids”.
As a school counselor, the kids I see are mostly cross-cultural kids. They are TCK’s, Bi/Multi-cultural Kids, Biracial Kids, International Adoptees, Educational Cross Cultural kids and often can be slotted into several different levels of experiences. If you want more information on the “New Normal of Cross-Cultural Kids (CCK) check out Ruth E. Van Reken, Third Culture Kids: The Experience of Growing up Among Worlds.
As school staff members we must focus on these special kids and support them to be the best they can be.....who knows where they might end up.
